About Transition Planning Now

Taking the guesswork out of decarbonizing building assets

Welcome to Transition Planning Now, a new resource developed by the Canada Green Building Council (CAGBC) to help guide building owners as they begin to transition their assets for a low-carbon, energy-efficient future.

Faced with changing codes and regulations, emerging technologies and evolving reporting requirements, building owners need building and portfolio level plans to advance decarbonization and ensure assets don’t get stranded.

CAGBC and its industry partners are developing Canadian-focused resources to help kickstart your transition planning. Let us take the guesswork out of decision making, with a clear and easy-to-follow path that can align Canada’s real estate sector around best practices for building retrofits.

Critical resources will include a Transition Plan Guide, as well as training opportunities to support the adoption of high-performance, zero carbon standards. With the support of the Real Property Association of Canada (REALPAC), building owners and sustainability leaders will also have access to Transition Planning Playbooks that consider the needs of different regions and asset types.

Developed by industry leaders

Transition Planning Now resources are being developed by CAGBC, industry experts with deep experience shaping green building standards and helping industry scale up building decarbonization.

We bolster the private sector’s efforts to secure sustainable building investments and implement strategies that result in buildings with high-performance outcomes and favourable returns.

Transition Planning Now is also supported by REALPAC, the national association representing executives and decision-makers in the Canadian commercial real estate industry. Together, REALPAC and CAGBC support Canada’s capacity to retrofit buildings for the future.

The Canadian Council for Indigenous Business is also on board, providing insights on the distinct needs of Indigenous building owners, and opportunities for Indigenous businesses in transition planning.
